Job summary

The Salvation Army in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Full Time Social Services Assistant to support voucher processing for eligible clients and help stock the pantry. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm, totaling 35 hours per week.

The role involves preparing vouchers, distributing pantry items, processing rent/utility assistance, and guiding clients with Social Service Programs. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; two years experience in social/public service environment.
• Valid Driver License required.

Job Location: ALM-Birmingham AL Area Command - Birmingham, AL 35234, Position Type: Full Time Regular, Salary Range: $13.80 - $13.80 Hourly, Job Category: Social Services, Typical hours:Monday - Friday 8am- 4pm with a one hour lunch break. This is a 35 hour per week position.

This position is responsible for :

Prepares, completes, and processes food, clothing, and furniture vouchers for eligible clients.

Key Responsibilities :

• Provides client's with food from pantry; receives and stocks items donated for the pantry; maintains an itemized account of pantry disbursements and inventory.
• Processes rent and utility financial assistance for eligible clients; contacts utility organizations and landlords to arrange and process financial assistance.
• Answers telephone in a courteous and tactful manner; assists clients by providing accurate and complete information regarding the Social Service Program operations and/or services; assists public in locating missing persons.
• Performs related work for special and seasonal projects.
• Performs other related work as required.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

What We Look For In You:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.,
• and
• Two years experience working in a social or public service environment with experience assisting the public,
• or
• any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• License & Certifications :Valid Driver License is required
