GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Social Services Caseworker is a member of the Case Management team within the Migration and Refugee Services department and is responsible for the MRS caseload for refugee and immigrant clients during their service period. The Social Services Caseworker ensures clients receive necessary services and assistance within the guidelines specified by the various funding sources. The Social Services Caseworker will be responsible for completing all reporting and follow-up for services provided to clients and ensuring reports are done in a timely manner. The Social Services Caseworker is expected to work as a team and in partnership with fellow caseworkers to implement a systematic and organized approach to provide case management services to all the clients. The Social Services Caseworker will also be responsible for maintaining good working relationships with outside partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
  1. Participate in case openings and Intake orientation for new clients enrolling in MRS programs including clients returning for services.
  2. Completion of all clients’ assessments, including enrollment in services and closing cases for services.
  3. Create individualized service plans based on client needs.
  4. Complete Initial Family Self Sufficiency Plans and follow-ups according to Kentucky Office of Refugees guidelines for clients enrolled in Employment Services.
  5. Make sure that all Case Management documentation is in the file.
  6. Develop systematic approach to addressing the issues and challenges faced by clients either through Walk-in or by appointment.
  7. Maintain accurate record of all services provided and complete required reports.
  8. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner by involving fellow caseworkers.
  9. Creation and updating of clients’ budgets.
  10. Attending Case Management & All Staff Meetings.
  11. All other duties assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

This work is performed in an office setting with moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people moving about and out in the community.

EFFORT:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs. and assist regularly with moving furniture, clothing, and household furnishings.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distant vision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the community.
  • Ability to accurately examine and analyze information.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree preferred.

At least three years of work experience preferably with refugees.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Demonstrated good communication skills to successfully interact with colleagues, clients, volunteers, and service providers in a multicultural environment and with individuals with limited English-speaking ability.
  • Ability to speak languages commonly spoken by current refugee populations preferred.
  • Must be able to represent Catholic Charities in a positive manner in dress and presentation when meeting community members and demonstrate good networking skills.
  • Must have strong writing skills and the ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, rules, and regulations to ensure programmatic and fiscal compliance.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and reliable personal transportation.
  • Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, and unexpected events.
  • Able to manage competing demands and use time effectively.
  • Able to provide clear instructions and delegate tasks and responsibilities to clients and colleagues.
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with colleagues, clients, other community personnel, and service providers.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
  • Must be proficient in PC skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must demonstrate self-confidence, initiative, flexibility, good supervisory skills, and a high degree of professionalism.
