Job summary

City of Omaha is seeking a full-time Social Media Specialist to create and execute engaging content across multiple platforms, manage social media programs, and monitor online conversations. The role supports the Convention & Visitors Bureau and Crisis Communications, with repairable flexibility for events and emergencies.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least one year of relevant experience; equivalent combinations are accepted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism or a related field.
• One (1) year of related professional experience in mass communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Creates content for multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
• Implements and manages social media programs for the assigned division/department.
• Monitors online conversations and engages when appropriate.
• Investigates and implements new social media channels as trends dictate.
• Tracks and analyzes social media statistics and their impact on marketing and recruitment.
• Creates talking points for press conferences, community events, and public appearances.
• Monitors social media tools and trends to increase internal adoption.
• Participates in professional associations to expand knowledge of tools and applications.
• Maintains regular attendance per schedule.
