Job summary

WOWT-TV/Gray Media is seeking a weekend Social Media Strategist to own our digital presence in Omaha and serve as the eyes and ears of the newsroom when major stories break.

You will collaborate with the Digital Director, monitor multiple feeds, and craft platform-appropriate videos and graphics to engage viewers across channels. A strong newsroom background and AP Style proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Track record of engaging social audiences across digital platforms with at least 5 years of experience.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Video editing in digital formats and quick, eye-catching graphics on the fly.
• Excellent verbal and written skills with strong AP Style.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Digital Director to build and execute a high-energy social strategy.
• Serve as primary newsroom contact during your shift, manage the assignment desk with urgency and precision.
• Monitor scanners, social feeds, emails, and viewer tips to identify breaking news.
• Help define and maintain a unique, engaging voice for WOWT.
• Repurpose and edit platform-appropriate videos and graphics from daily coverage.
• Work with weekend on-air talent and reporters to boost social presence.
• Dispatch photographers and reporters to developing stories.
• Review metrics and social trends to ensure strategy effectiveness.
