Job summary

Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska is seeking Snowmaker 1 or Snowmaker 2 to operate and maintain artificial snowmaking equipment on ski trails. You’ll set up and adjust snow guns, relocate gear, and ensure safe operations around snow cats, machines, and hoses.

Starting wage is $18/hour with housing options, flexible schedules, paid time off, mountain pass, employee discounts, and benefits. Snowmakers must be able to work long shifts in variable, cold conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain artificial snowmaking equipment on ski trails.
  • Set up, relocate, and dismantle snowmaking gear across mountain locations.
  • Adjust snow guns for optimal performance in varying temperatures.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues to minimize downtime.
  • Fill propane bottles and ensure safety around heavy equipment.
  • Collaborate with snowmakers and resort staff to deliver great winter conditions.

We’re looking for Snowmaker 1 or Snowmaker 2 professionals to join our team in Girdwood, Alaska.

WhatYou’llDo

As a Snowmaker 1 or Snowmaker 2, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining artificial snowmaking equipment on ski trails. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that our guests enjoy the best possible conditions for skiing and snowboarding. Your primary tasks will include setting up and relocating equipment, adjusting snow guns for optimal performance, and ensuring safe operations around snow cats, snow machines, and hoses.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate andmaintainsnowmaking equipment with precision, ensuringoptimalsnow quality and coverage.
  • Set up,relocate, and dismantle snowmaking equipment across various locations on the mountain to maximize snow coverage.
  • Adjust snow guns to achieve peak performance under varying temperatures.
  • Remove ice buildup on snow machines and hoses.
  • Maintain a vigilant focus on safety protocols, guaranteeing a secure environment for both the team and guests.
  • Safelyoperateand maintain snow cats, snowmobiles, and hoses.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Fill propane bottles as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow snowmakers and resort staff to achieve shared goals and deliver a seamless winter experience.

What We Need
  • Ability to work in variable weather conditions and adapt to changing environments.
  • Ability to accommodate an extremely flexible work schedule (Snowmaking begins when temperatures drop below freezing, requiring availability at all hours).
  • Willingness to work long shifts (up to 12 hours).
  • Reliability and accessibility via telephone for on-call duty.
  • Capability to work well under pressure.
  • Prior experience preferred (requiredfor Snowmaker 2 or above).
  • Strong customer service skills with good verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiencyin skiing or snowboarding on ungroomed surfaces.
What to Expect
  • Be on alert and at times, on your feet forlong periods, including nights, weekends, & holidays.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-energy resort environment.
  • Adapt to seasonal changes around the resort andspecial events.
  • Physical demands: Ability to lift up-to 75 pounds, bend, stoop, walk, push or pull heavy equipment and stand for extended periods of time. Physical demands include operating heavy machinery, lifting equipment, and working in physically demanding environments. Manual dexterity and a firm grasp for using tools and equipment.
  • Work Environment:This role involves extended hours, nights, and weekends to accommodate peak business periods. Shifts may include overnight work, as snowmaking often occurs during off-peak hours. Working in various weather conditions isrequired. Work is performed outdoors in cold, snowy, and often challenging weather conditions. May require working at heights or on steep terrain.
