Job summary

Rural King in Martinsville, VA is seeking a Mechanic I to diagnose, service, and repair customer and company-owned equipment in our in-store repair shop. You will work on small engines, tractors, diesel equipment, hydraulic systems, and outdoor power equipment, manage repair orders, parts, and warranty claims.

Strong diagnostic skills, customer service, and the ability to handle multiple work orders are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Experience diagnosing and repairing small engines and diesel equipment.
• Strong diagnostic troubleshooting abilities.
• Familiarity with hydraulic systems and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, repair, and maintain small engines, tractors, diesel equipment, hydraulic systems, and outdoor power equipment.
• Manage customer repair work orders from intake through completion, including documentation, parts ordering, repairs, and warranty claims.
• Perform preventative maintenance and intermediate-level service on customer and company-owned equipment.
• Use diagnostic software, multimeters, service tools, repair manuals, schematics, and system diagrams to identify equipment issues and complete repairs.
• Complete warranty documentation and process claims according to manufacturer requirements.
• Order and manage special-order parts needed for repairs.
• Document work performed, repair progress, identified issues, parts used, and recommended next steps.
• Communicate repair recommendations, service updates, and maintenance information to customers.
• Assist with equipment sales and customer education when needed.
• Load and unload customer and company-owned equipment for repairs, service, and delivery.
• Safely operate forklifts, gantry cranes, electric hoists, diagnostic equipment, multimeters, and other shop tools.
