Job summary

University of California, Davis VMTH is seeking a Small Animal Patient Care Technician to provide para-veterinary technical support to veterinarians in the Small Animal Clinic. Primary duties include assisting with treatments, blood bank support, student instruction, and clinician and facility support.

This on-site, part-time position ends after 10 months with renewal possibilities; there is shift variation and on-call pay for eligible roles. Applicants must obtain VACSP within 3 months.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Small Animal Patient Care shift supervisor, provide Para veterinary technical support to the Small Animal Clinic Veterinarians. On a daily basis, responsible for the treatment of patients, blood bank support, student instruction, clinician support and facility support.

This position ends 10 months from date of hire with the possibility of extension.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened on a weekly basis.The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Must obtain a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 3 months from date of hire.
  • No Minimum Education required.
  • Experience working in a small animal hospital as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistance.
  • Experience giving medications.
  • Experience drawing blood.
  • Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of people including clients, clinicians, students and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
  • Experience catheterizing blood vessels and urinary track.
  • Knowledge of common hospital pathogens and methods of disinfection.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes. Skill to assist in the performance of veterinary medical treatments and procedures.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
