RECRUITMENT PERIOD: Post for one month. Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

This position is not subject to the 1,000-hour conversion to career.

Under supervision of the Small Animal Nursing supervisor, clean, disinfect, sanitize and stock assigned areas according to established protocols. Monitor and record patient vital functions; maintain supply inventory and equipment; perform feeding, hospitalization and discharge procedures according to protocol.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working as a veterinary assistant in a small animal hospital with the skill to assist in the performance of veterinary medical treatments and procedures.
• Education in veterinary technology or veterinary science.
• Experience using safe animal handling and restraint techniques for a wide variety of patients.
• Knowledge of common hospital pathogens and methods of disinfection along with the knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.
