Job summary

Eddie Kane Steel Products is seeking a full-time Welder/Fitter to safely complete fabrication work orders. You will read drawings, lay out and fit components, perform MIG/FCAW welding on structural steel and assemblies, and ensure proper welds with attention to quality and safety.

The role requires 75 lb lifts, physical work, and adherence to PPE and safety practices in a multi-plant environment. On-site fabrication experience is essential.

Qualifications

• Prior welding/fitting experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read drawings, weld symbols, cut sheets, and work orders.
• Able to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical work.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; 2–3 years welding/fitting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings, weld symbols, cut sheets, and work orders before starting fabrication.
• Lay out, fit, square, level, and tack components according to print requirements.
• Verify dimensions, hole locations, part orientation, and overall fit-up before welding.
• Perform MIG/FCAW welding on structural steel, plate, tubing, brackets, assemblies, and fabricated components.
• Prepare material for welding by grinding, cleaning, beveling, deburring, and removing slag or mill scale as needed.
• Fit parts tightly and correctly to reduce rework, gaps, distortion, and weld quality issues.
• Understand proper weld size, weld placement, sequencing, and heat control to limit warping.
• Move material safely using overhead cranes, forklifts, magnets, chains, slings, and other rigging equipment.
• Inspect your own work for accuracy and weld quality; communicate any unclear requirements to supervisor.
