Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to operate construction equipment for excavation, grading, and roadwork on projects across Texas. The role involves loading materials, grading surfaces, and assisting with trenching for utilities.

The position requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather, meet physical requirements, and work overtime, nights, and weekends as needed, with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; prior field experience preferred.
• Strong working knowledge and abilities for the position.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate with supervision.
• Proficient in safe and efficient use of electrical, hand, power, layout and measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move and/or grade material.
• Load gravel, dirt and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
• Trench and construct ditches for installation of culverts, water pipes and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
• Check and maintain fluid levels and lubrication on equipment.
• Instruct and train employees in safe operation of construction equipment and job techniques.
• Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify causes of errors or defects.
• Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed.
• Inspect subordinate's work for contract compliance and take corrective action.
