Job summary

Dodge Ridge Ski Resort in Pinecrest, CA is seeking a part-time Ski/Snowboard School Supervisor to support daily department operations. You will help schedule instructors, group students by level, supervise lessons, and coach staff on lesson quality while working on the lower mountain.

This role requires advanced skiing or snowboarding ability, PSIA/AASI certification, prior supervisory experience, and a willingness to work in varying weather. You may also teach when business levels dictate.

Salary Range: $19.00 To $21.00 Hourly

Summary of Job Purpose

As directed, the Ski/Snowboard School Supervisor will support the daily operations of the department. Responsibilities include assisting in instructor scheduling to meet business needs, organizing students into class levels, facilitating lesson quality through lesson area supervision and interacting with staff members as to lesson sales. A key function of the role is being a visible staff member on the lower mountain to ensure quality lessons, class sizes and provide support and coaching to the instructors. Responsibilities may also include clinics, training and safety. This is a part-time supervisor position that will function as an instructor as business levels dictate. This position is a KEY member of the Dodge Ridge Team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service. This involves interacting with guests in a courteous manner, and being able to answer questions professionally.


• Assists with hiring, motivating, evaluating and directing staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established departmental goals and objectives. Assist in ensuring that all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary.


• Schedule instructors to daily lesson assignments and complete required daily documentation neatly and accurately.


• Assist and support indoor and outdoor Children’s Center staff and processes.


• Supervise and observe the teaching and learning progress of classes and make corrections as necessary in an appropriate manner being aware of both guest and staff perspectives.


• Continually monitor class sizes and splits. Make decisions that help promote profitability, safety and quality in lessons and support instructors’ success.


• Clinic instructors as directed following the departmental policies and procedures. Support instructors preparing for certification exams.


• Set a good example for instructors by improving your own riding, teaching, clinician, organizational, and management skills.


• Be leaders in the department risk management program.


• Assist with the development and application of departmental trainings; including accurate and updated documentation of training.


• Work with snow removal teams on snowy mornings.


• Help with set-up and tear-down of daily lesson equipment.


• Teach lessons and comply with the job description for a Snowsports Instructor as business levels dictate, possibly switching between Supervisor and Instructor throughout the course of a day.

It is important to understand that the position of Snowsports Supervisor does involve a considerable amount of skiing/riding. However, there is a distinction that needs to be made between free skiing/riding and working on skis/snowboards.

Job Qualifications

• Advanced ski / snowboarding ability required


• Level I, III or III certified member of PSIA/AASI


• Prior supervisory experience required


• Willingness to continually learn and update knowledge of skiing/snowboarding and instruction through attending both ski/snowboard school and PSIA/AASI functions.


• Well educated in the PSIA/AASI Teaching Systems and the Dodge Ridge Snowsports School Progressions.


• Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.


• Understanding of technical knowledge and methodology required explaining the fundamentals of skiing and snowboarding.


• Must be aware of the ski areas terrain and facilities.


• Neatly groomed and ski/snowboard equipment in good condition, leading to a professional over-all appearance.


• Knowledgeable of equipment needs and standard procedures for its care and safe operation.


• Safety and risk oriented.


• Possess strong multi-tasking skills and be extremely flexible in regards to work duties.


• Willingness to work during extreme weather conditions.


• Good physical conditioning, including flexibility, strength and endurance.


• Heavy and awkward lifting up to 50lbs


• Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the Motor Vehicle Record qualifications as outlined in the Fleet Safety Program.

Work Schedules

Weather conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Dodge Ridge employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods, you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road surfaces.

It is imperative that all coordinators arrive to work on time. Holidays and special events may require longer hours

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Work is typically outside working directly with resort guests and other resort staff members. It can be noisy, cold, wet, or humid. You may be expected to work in high places and frequently you will work around moving objects.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Dodge Ridge is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. However, you will be required to provide some items as part of your job, as listed below. The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Dodge Ridge logo while on shift.

Note: Ski/Snowboard equipment must pass binding function test.

The skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing for both the guest and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies.
