Dodge Ridge Corp. seeks enthusiastic Snowsports Instructors to teach guests across beginner to advanced levels at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort in Pinecrest, CA. You will develop students’ skills while maintaining a safe learning environment and providing exceptional guest service.

Applicants should be capable of teaching multiple age groups, from children to adults, and be prepared to participate in clinics and ongoing skill development. Weekend and holiday availability is expected.

Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Intermediate to advanced skiing/snowboarding ability required.
  • Good physical conditioning, including flexibility, strength, and endurance.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Neatly groomed, ski and/or snowboard equipment in good condition, leading to a professional overall appearance.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Daily meetings and class assignments with Supervisors/Managers.
  • Assist in organizing lessons under the direction of department manager or supervisor.
  • Teach Ski/Snowboard lessons through logical progressions of skills, to the ability of the student(s).
  • Demonstrate and clearly explain all tasks required for the lesson.
  • Work with supervisor to create appropriate splits in classes to meet students’ needs.
  • Maintain safety of all students at all times and teach safety guidelines.
  • Participate in clinics to improve skiing/snowboarding and teaching skills.
  • Continually learn and update knowledge of skiing/snowboarding and instruction through PSIA/AASI.
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down of daily lesson equipment.

Salary Range: $17.75 To $27.00 Hourly


Summary of Job Purpose

Snowsports Instructors provide exceptional guest service while working with our guests to advance their technical skills along with their enjoyment of the sport while maintaining a safe learning environment. Instructors need to have the ability to teach various age groups including children, teens and adults. Instructors must also have a willingness and desire to improve their own technical and teaching skills in order to better serve our guests. Instructors must be punctual , flexible, well presented, able to meet the physical requirements of the position and have ski / ride ability suitable to the level of lesson they can teach.


Instructors must possess the knowledge and ability to teach both adults and children in the beginner levels. Level I certified Instructors must possess the knowledge and ability to teach beginner to intermediate lessons. Level II certified instructors must possess the knowledge and ability to teach intermediate lessons . Level III certified instructors must possess the knowledge to teach all levels in all snow and terrain conditions.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service. This involves interacting with guests in a courteous manner, and being able to answer questions professionally.

  • Daily meetings and class assignments with Supervisors/Managers at line-up. Instructors with certification and seniority will be given priority in class assignments.

  • Assist in organizing lessons under the direction of your department manager or supervisor.

  • Teach Ski/Snowboard lessons through logical progressions of skills, to the ability of the student(s).

  • Demonstrate and clearly explain all tasks required for the lesson. Use alternate skills demonstrations and explanations as necessary to keep all students progressing.

  • Work with department supervisor and/or manager to create appropriate splits in classes to better meet students’ needs.

  • Maintain safety of all students at all times. Teach all appropriate safety guidelines.

  • Clinics will be offered to improve skiing / snowboarding skills, along with teaching skills. A certain number of clinic hours will be required to better develop skills and spend time with fellow instructors. The topics and clinicians will be scheduled in advance.

  • Demonstrate understanding of technical knowledge and methodology required to explain the fundamentals of skiing and or snowboarding to a student.

  • When teaching lessons, while waiting for class assignments, assist with the guest arrival and rental equipment issuance in the children’s center and rental center.

  • Continually learn and update knowledge of skiing/snowboarding, and ski/snowboard instruction through attending both ski school and PSIA/AASI functions.

  • Work with snow removal teams on snowy mornings.

  • Help with set-up and tear-down of daily lesson equipment.


It is important to note that the position of ski and snowboard instructors involves a considerable amount of skiing and snowboarding. There is however a distinction between free skiing/boarding and working. Any questions in this regard, should be directed to your Supervisors.


Job Qualifications


  • Intermediate to advanced skiing/snowboarding ability required

  • Must be 16 years of age or older

  • Must be aware of the ski areas terrain and facilities.

  • Willingness to work during extreme weather conditions.

  • Ability to learn and be knowledgeable of the needs of the equipment and standard procedures for its care and safe operation.

  • Heavy and awkward lifting up to 50lbs

  • Safety and risk oriented.

  • Willingness to follow all current safety protocols and procedures daily.

Work Schedules

Weather conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Dodge Ridge employees.


When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods, you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.


You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road surfaces.


Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.


Uniforms

A professional appearance at Dodge Ridge is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. However, you will be required to provide some items as part of your job, as listed below. The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Dodge Ridge logo while on shift.


Items You Must Provide


  • Ski / snowboard equipment and ski bindings that pass a binding function test (you should be aware you are responsible for any damage to your equipment while at work.

  • Goggles

  • Sunscreen

  • Gloves

  • All base layers appropriate to the conditions.


The skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing for both the guest and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies.
