Qualifications

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 for Gebhard Woods State Park. This position will use their skills to maintain and repair the site buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment, and operate a 35 foot aerial lift for removal and pruning of trees from the canal prism, operate a tracked excavator, backhoe, skidsteer and several dump trucks with air brakes and a 30 foot trailer with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds to transport equipment gravel and rock. This position will disinfect restrooms, sell camping and firewood permits to the public and on a seasonal basis provide leadership and direction to seasonal staff and volunteers. Gebhard Woods State Park is bordered on the south by the Illinois & Michigan Canal and to the north by Nettle Creek, which flows along the perimeter and through the park. It is the perfect place to enjoy picnicking, primative tent camping, fishing, and walking along a 61-mile trail on the old canal towpath which gives access to unparalleled scenic and historic sights. Essential Functions

• Under general direction, repairs and maintains buildings, fixtures, equipment and regularly operates heavyequipment.
• Operates 35 foot aerial lift and for the removal of trees from canal prism and pruning area and to haul material tomaintain trails.
• Maintains ground areas throughout the site.
• Repairs trails along canal including signs, washouts and bridges.
• On an intermittent or seasonal basis, provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees as well asvolunteers.
• Sells camping permits and firewood permits to the public.
• Assists in implementing safety and security programs at the site.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumeratedabove.

Minimum Qualificaions

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operationof heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery andimplements and/or warehousing.
• One (1) year of experience in following written and oral instructions.
• One (1) year of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
• One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
• One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.
