Midcontinent-Independent-System is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to lead the transformation of incident response into an engineering discipline focused on health, automation, and scalable systems. You will partner with engineering to set SLIs/SLOs, build dashboards, and reduce toil across teams.

The role requires a strong software foundation, experience with Kubernetes (Azure AKS), and tools like Grafana, Splunk, Datadog, and New Relic.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
• 6-8 years of relevant work experience.
• Strong software engineering skills in Java, C#, Python or similar.
• Proficiency with Windows and/or Linux command-line tools (PowerShell).
• Experience with containerized workloads in Kubernetes environments (Azure AKS).
• Observability/logging tools (Grafana, Splunk, Datadog, New Relic) and Git/GitHub Actions.

Responsibilities

• Define SLIs/SLOs with engineering teams and build observability dashboards, alerts, and tooling to measure system health.
• Develop reliable, intuitive performance and health visualizations to streamline troubleshooting.
• Improve data integrations and visualizations across tools to provide high-quality insights.
• Identify operational toil and design automation or process improvements to scale teams.
• Lead incident response for complex multi-team issues and implement long-term reliability improvements.
