Job summary

Liberty University, Inc. is seeking a Software Developer IV to lead the Student Information Services (SIS) Team within IT Development.

This role centers on delivering and supporting strategic SIS initiatives, including IDM and core SIS capabilities, with emphasis on scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions. You will mentor developers, set technical direction, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities and drive Tech leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field is required.
• 8+ years of experience in software development, with a deep understanding of architecture and design patterns, is required.
• Architectural Knowledge: Expertise in software architecture and design principles, including microservices and service-oriented architecture (SOA).
• Technology Stack: Comprehensive knowledge of multiple programming languages, frameworks, and tools across the full stack.
• Performance Optimization: Ability to analyze and optimize application performance at all levels (front-end, back-end, and database).
• Leadership and Influence: Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and drive technology adoption.
• Cloud Architecture: Experience designing and implementing solutions in containerized environments.
• System Design: Strong skills in designing scalable and maintainable systems and understanding design patterns.
• Advanced Testing Skills: Proficiency in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead SIS Team Lead delivering and supporting strategic SIS initiatives focusing on IDM and core SIS capabilities.
• Lead the design, development, and delivery of Liberty’s SIS and product suite with scalable, secure solutions.
• Collaborate with Tech Leads, PMs, and stakeholders to establish technical direction and long-term strategy.
• Serve as primary technical authority for architecture governance, code quality, testing standards, and security.
• Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing emerging technologies and development approaches.
• Guide evolution of complex systems, reduce technical debt, and enable sustainable team productivity.
• Communicate technical vision and progress to executives and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor team members and support leadership in engineering culture development.
• Ensure coverage for incidents, including high/critical incidents outside normal hours.
• Take ownership of deliverables and resolve technical challenges swiftly.
• Adhere to Liberty University policies and mission in all activities.
