Providence College seeks a Simulation Education Specialist to manage nursing simulation labs, maintain simulators, and support the development of simulations and curricula. The role partners with nursing faculty and IT to ensure high-quality learning experiences.

The position entails labs management, equipment handling, and assisting in the creation of scenario-based education while coordinating with vendors and internal teams. Hours are typically 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required in technology or health-related field.
  • One to three years’ experience with simulation technologies (Laerdal and Gaumard) in nursing/clinical education or healthcare background desired.
  • Two years’ experience in a related environment preferred.
  • Basic simulation equipment experience.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office experience.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology or willingness to be trained.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology in nursing simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of simulation equipment and exam rooms; install software updates and coordinate with vendors.
  • Assist in inventory, setup, reset, and technical support of simulation systems and AV equipment; capture and debrief simulation sessions.
  • Assist in development and implementation of simulation education courses and experiences; support faculty with open lab or remediation hours.
  • Support faculty in developing clinically based simulation scenarios and assist with events and tours.
  • Collect data for ongoing quality improvements, research, or grant requirements.

Job description

Responsible for nursing and interdisciplinary student simulation education and related program support, equipment management, and content development and delivery. Work closely with nursing faculty, students, and other stakeholders to ensure that simulation-based learning experiences are effective and aligned with educational goals. Note: The hours for this position are 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

  1. Conduct preventive maintenance checks and services of simulation equipment and troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Prepare, maintain, and troubleshoot technical and mechanical aspects of the simulators and exam rooms, including the maintenance, cleaning, and reporting of any required repairs. Attain mastery of simulator operations software and a comprehensive knowledge of hardware characteristics, including coordinating with vendors to resolve serious mechanical failures. Install software updates on computers and maintain manikin components as directed by manufacturer support. Collaborate with Information Technology and simulation system vendors to install software updates and identify and isolate simulation system and network-related issues. Follows up on ticket resolutions. (35%)
  2. Assist in inventory of consumable and equipment supplies and restocking labs and simulation space as needed. Responsible for the proper setup, reset, operation, breakdown, storage, and technical support of simulation systems, computers, sim space, manikins, and supplies. Provide theatrical production (costuming and Moulage) for simulation scenarios as needed. Coordinate activities in the Control Room and operate simulators, task trainers, and the audio-visual equipment. Capture, edit, and replay simulation sessions for debriefing. (35%)
  3. Assist in the development and implementation of simulation education courses and experiences. Support faculty with open lab or remediation hours as needed. Attend industry conferences and participate in the continuing education professional development to stay current on the rapidly evolving simulation technology education. (15%)
  4. Assist faculty in the development, testing, and implementation of detailed clinically based simulation scenarios. Support professional staff with special projects, tours of the building, and in-person special events as needed. (10%)
  5. Collect data for ongoing quality improvements, research, or grant requirements. (5%)

MARGINAL DUTIES:

  1. Perform all other duties as may be required.
  • Associate’s degree in technology or a health-related field from an accredited institution required.
  • One to three years’ experience working with simulation technologies (Laerdal and Gaumard) in a nursing or clinical education setting or experience in healthcare practice and will to learn simulation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years’ experience in a related environment preferred. Experience in an academic, clinical, or medical setting preferred.
  • Basic simulation equipment experience.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology or willingness to be trained.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively and independently coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to and take full advantage of changing technology in nursing simulation.
