Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Simulation infrastructure team, delivering high-performance simulations of spacecraft for proposals, design, manufacture, and operation.

You will grow people, processes, and technical capabilities, collaborating with the team’s architect and engineering leaders, from proposal bidding to mission performance analysis, to define and deliver industry-leading simulations and analytic capabilities.

Qualifications

• BS/MS or equivalent in CS, Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 5+ years software engineering and 3+ years managing teams delivering production systems.
• Experience leading teams delivering physical simulations and data analytics.
• Domain expertise in physics-based modeling for hardware design, implementation, behavior, and testing.
• Proven track record building reliable, scalable software tools.
• Experience estimating resources and scheduling software projects.
• Hiring, training, and promoting software engineers and data scientists.
• Proficient in C++, Python, TypeScript, or Julia.
• Strong communication with cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers and scientists who build numerical modelling infrastructure and perform data analysis.
• Synthesize a roadmap with partners aligning to Muon’s priorities.
• Guide execution of foundational projects delivering understanding of complex space system performance.
• Develop and track quality and performance metrics for mission-critical systems.
• Collaborate with leadership to architect enduring organizational processes.
• Manage team capacity, staffing, and growth including hiring and performance development.
• Be a voice of responsible and compassionate leadership in a fast-growing workplace.
