Job summary

Gensler Charlotte is seeking a Signage Designer to translate client brands into physical environments through graphics, signage, wayfinding, and placemaking. You will lead strategy, design, documentation, and oversight across signage systems within architectural contexts.

The ideal candidate is a strong 2D/3D designer with experience coordinating with internal teams, fabricators, and clients on projects across industries. Proficiency in BIM and Adobe Creative Suite is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in graphic design, industrial design, environmental design, architecture, visual communication, or related field.
• 5-10 years of professional experience in signage and wayfinding design, environmental graphic design, or similar studio experience.
• Strong graphic design, illustration, typography, composition, and information design skills across multiple project types.
• Portfolio demonstrating installed signage and wayfinding work, including both conceptual design and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative signage and wayfinding strategies that solve complex navigation challenges and create intuitive user experiences.
• Conduct research and user journey analysis to understand environments, translating insights into effective communication.
• Design cohesive sign families, hierarchies, messaging frameworks, and environmental graphics that integrate typography, color, and architectural context.
• Create sign location plans, message schedules, traffic flow diagrams, and detailed wayfinding documentation from concept through implementation.
• Produce design intent packages, technical drawings, elevations, details, and production-ready artwork for 2D, 3D, print, and digital applications.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, designers, contractors, and fabricators to deliver integrated signage solutions.
• Coordinate fabrication, construction, and installation documentation while reviewing RFIs and submittals for design integrity.
• Work within Revit-based BIM workflows to integrate wayfinding and signage into architectural documentation.
• Participate in site surveys, field verification, installation reviews, and punch walks.
• Manage multiple projects, contributing to studio standards and best practices.
