Job summary

Cal Poly is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter I for the Disability Resource Center to provide interpreting services for campus events, instructional classes, or related instructional settings, handling standard complexity factors such as subject matter, speed, and the number of consumers served simultaneously.

The interpreter delivers high quality, accurate interpretation within professional standards and makes independent decisions about methods to use for delivery in real-time contexts.

Qualifications

• Ability to hear spoken English and use ASL, Signed English, and/or another manual sign system to effectively generate language.
• Ability to interpret and transliterate between ASL and spoken English across settings (classroom, event, conference).
• Knowledge of RID code of professional conduct.
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to establish cooperative relationships with students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting services for campus events, instructional classes or related instructional settings.
• Make independent interpretation method decisions on-site for effective delivery.
