Job summary

Cherry Creek Schools is seeking an Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and staff within an educational setting. You will interpret using American Sign Language, work with special and general education teachers, and help remove linguistic and cultural barriers to learning.

Responsibilities include interpreting in classrooms and IEP meetings, tutoring, planning lessons, and ensuring confidentiality while promoting inclusive communication for all students.

Qualifications

• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
• Associate's degree.
• Two years of professional work experience in sign language or interpreting in an educational setting.
• CDE Educational Interpreter Authorization.
• Basic knowledge of office equipment and Microsoft Office.
• Advanced knowledge of Deaf culture and ASL.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
• Ability to work one-on-one or in small groups with students.
• Knowledge of RID Code of Professional Conduct and EIPA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Deaf/Hard of Hearing students understand communication presented in all educational settings through interpreting.
• Collaborate with teachers to facilitate signing interpretation and environmental feedback.
• Determine best distance, lighting, and angle for student viewing with teacher input.
• Provide input about student performance for IEP planning and meetings.
• Participate in IEP meetings to ensure interpreters are provided.
• Monitor and support student behavior and assist with social interactions.
• Provide tutoring to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
• Plan lessons and adapt language/materials for Deaf/HH students.
• Uphold district rules and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
