Job summary

Cherry Creek Careers seeks an Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support Deaf/Hard of Hearing students within a Colorado educational environment. You will work with the instructional team to interpret and translate classroom content, aiding comprehension and participation for students and staff.

Responsibilities include collaborating with teachers, attending IEP meetings, tutoring students, and adapting language for individual needs while upholding district policies and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
• Associate's degree.
• Two years of professional work experience in sign language or interpreting in an educational setting.
• CDE Educational Interpreter Authorization.
• Basic knowledge of standard office equipment.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Advanced knowledge of Deaf culture.
• Advanced knowledge and proficiency with American Sign Language.
• Intermediate organization skills.
• Intermediate tutoring skills.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced interpersonal relations skills.
• Advanced interpreting skills (voice to sign and sign to voice).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
• Ability to work one-on-one or in small groups with students.
• Ability to stay abreast of RID Code and PERF Guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Deaf/Hard of Hearing students receive and understand communication in all settings through the interpreting process and work with teachers to facilitate signing interpretation.
• Collaborate with teachers, supervisors, interpreters, and education staff to plan and provide consistent interpreting and environmental feedback.
• Determine best distance, lighting, and angle for student viewing in collaboration with students and teachers.
• Provide input on student performance and progress for instructional planning and IEP meetings.
• Ensure interpreters are provided if needed for IEP meetings.
• Monitor and support student behavior and support social interactions.
• Provide tutoring to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and adapt materials to meet needs.
• Adapt language and materials for student needs.
• Uphold District rules and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
