Job summary

Southern Oregon ESD is seeking an Educational Assistant with basic sign language to support deaf or hard of hearing students across Pre-K–12 in regular and special classrooms. You will work with experienced interpreters and help prepare instructional materials, contributing to a cohesive educational team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Complete at least two sign language classes of increasing difficulty or have equivalent experience in sign language.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the evaluation of student performance levels.
• Assist in the instruction of individual or groups of deaf and hard of hearing students.
• Assist in the tutorial support of deaf and hard of hearing students assigned by teacher.
• Provide basic interpretive support for deaf and hard of hearing students who use sign language for communication or instruction.
• Assist in the application of student management procedures including physical care.
• Assist in the preparation of instructional materials for deaf and hard of hearing students assigned.
• Perform organizational and clerical tasks as assigned.
• Communicate clearly and make independent decisions within established policies and procedures.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Participate as an effective team member.
• Participate in professional growth activities.
• Comply with local district and ESD rules and policies.
