Job summary

The Oregon School for the Deaf in Salem, Oregon is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support teachers and students during the academic year. This full-time role involves one-on-one support, classroom activities, and helping with health services as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma (or two years of education coursework), be proficient in ASL, and be able to communicate in English. Experience with deaf or hard-of-hearing students is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma or two years of college in Education.
  • Bilingual ASL/SLPI: language assessment within 12 weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering cognitive and self-help skills; monitor student behavior; provide clerical support in the classroom.
  • Aid teachers in implementing behavior plans and academic programs; participate in behavior management through observation and data collection.
  • Escort and supervise students during transitions between classes and activities; may involve driving a state vehicle.
  • Follow teacher-made lesson plans when working with individuals or small groups across age ranges.
  • Assist in activity preparation and clean-up as needed.
  • Adhere to Educational Staff Handbook and policies to ensure health, safety, and welfare of students.
