Job summary

Pacific Union School District in Arcata, CA seeks a Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and teachers, staff and peers. The interpreter will translate from spoken English to sign language and back to voice in classrooms and events, supporting curriculum access and participation.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an interpreter training program, and RID/EIPA or equivalent certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Completion of an accredited interpreter training program.
• RID/EIPA certification or equivalent preferred (dependent on state/district requirements).
• Experience in an educational setting is desirable.
• Background check and TB test clearance as applicable.
• CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and others in the educational environment.
• Interpret spoken and written English to sign language and sign language to voice.
• Support student access to curriculum and school participation.
• Interpret in classrooms and during school events and meetings.
