Job summary

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking a Sign Fabricator to perform in-house fabrication and on-site installation of signage across the Metro system. You will work with vinyl products, large format printers and engraving equipment, ensuring compliance with WMATA signage standards.

The role requires experience with sign fabrication, layout, and ability to work at heights, with a focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications

Knowledge of current industry standards and best practices in industrial sign fabrication/installation
Knowledge of design, layout and fabrication of complex signage
Knowledge of vector-based graphics/rip software
Knowledge of operating vinyl plotters and large format digital printers
Knowledge of ADA signage standards including fabrication and installation specifications
High school diploma or GED; two years’ related experience preferred

Responsibilities

Creates/fabricates signage from scratch using approved sign specs, shop drawings or descriptions
Fabricates, repairs, refurbishes and refinishes defective signs following approved procedures
Uses vinyl plotters, large format printers, engraving/routing machines and vector software
Installs signs across Rail and Bus systems from ladders, scaffolding and manlifts
Operates hand and power tools required for installation tasks
Measures and lays out signs, verifies dimensions and ensures standards
Documents maintenance or installation work and requisitions parts
Attends required safety trainings and adheres to best practices
