Job summary

Altorfer Cat in Rockford, IL seeks a skilled Service Technician to perform maintenance, diagnosis and repairs on construction and aerial work platform equipment. You will build strong relationships with customers and may pick up or deliver gear as needed, documenting work in reports.

Applicants should have a technical training background or 2+ years of experience, with knowledge of gas/diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.

Job description

Schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, Saturdays and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on all types of construction and aerial work platform equipment.
• Establish and maintain service‑oriented relationships with customers.
• Pick up and deliver equipment when necessary.
• Answer calls and questions that customers have.
• Provide excellent customer service to all customers.
• Complete service reports and other paperwork before and after repairs.
• Perform other related duties as requested or assigned.
• Perform repairs on all brands of rental equipment and some customer owned equipment (CAT, Genie, Skyjack, Hybrid, JLG, Wacker, Polaris, Miller, Sullair).

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a formal technical training program preferred or a minimum of 2 years of previous related work experience required.
• Knowledge of gas and diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Automotive and Industrial Maintenance Technicians encouraged to apply.
• Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook; knowledge of DBS preferred.
• Strong written communication skills for emails, letters, and documentation.
• Self‑starter, well organized, able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Physical ability to lift 75 lbs, bend, twist, and climb.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (no more than 2 minor violations in past 3 years and no major violations in past 5 years).

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Rate: $48.39 per hour.

This position works the majority of time in the equipment shop. May continuously walk, bend and lift up to 75 lbs. At times you may be required to move/operate equipment to determine maintenance needs. The noise level is moderate to high. This position also spends a portion of time in an office environment, sitting at a desk for long periods, answering telephone, and writing or using a keyboard. Must be flexible to work Saturdays and overtime as needed. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform this job.
