Shop Technician – Caterpillar Industrial Engine (Finance)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The primary function of this position is to determine the status of service needed for Caterpillar Industrial engines and components, performing advanced repairs, replacements, installations, or rebuilding of parts to restore engine operation. This role includes engines from OEMs such as Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere, and others.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Review work schedules, check equipment and supplies, comply with PPE requirements, and prepare for duties.
• Use manuals, diagrams, and digital resources to troubleshoot engines and fuel systems.
• Operate lift trucks, cranes, and other equipment to move parts and engines.
• Use hand and power tools to disassemble, repair, and reassemble engines and components, following safety standards.
• Reference parts and technical information using internet and computer systems; enter data into order and record-keeping systems.
• Drain and fill fluids, clean parts, and perform repairs on various engine parts and equipment.
• Climb on, under, and into vehicles and engines as required.
• Replace pumps, control panels, batteries, radiators, bearings, seals, wiring, and other parts necessary for repairs.
• Use overhead hoists and cranes to remove and install engines and parts.
• Test, evaluate, repair, and recalibrate parts using meters, tools, and specialized equipment.
• Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, fluid changes, filter replacements, and testing; document results and service activities.
• Communicate service findings and documentation verbally and in writing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Work Experience: At least six years of experience, including two years with Caterpillar equipment; proficiency in at least two mechanical systems (transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.) across multiple models.

Physical: Ability to perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 120 pounds, and using mechanical aids.

Other: Ability to write repair reports, apply problem-solving skills, use computers for troubleshooting, and work independently with minimal supervision.
