A leading company in power generation solutions is seeking an Entry-Level Generator Controls / ATS / Switchgear Technician. The role involves troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, ensuring safety protocols, and maintaining high productivity. Ideal candidates should possess strong problem-solving skills and a high school diploma, with additional technical training preferred. This position requires effective communication and the ability to work remotely with occasional travel to customer sites.
Generator Controls / ATS / Switchgear Technician (Entry level) (Finance)
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Perform in-depth repairs and troubleshooting on the mechanical and electrical aspects of electrical power generation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma required. Military experience (4 years) or technical college in diesel or electrical technology can offset work experience by 2 years.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
External Candidates: At least 5 years of experience with Automatic Transfer Switches; UPS and Switchgear experience preferred.
Internal Candidates: Must be a GPEC EPG Master Technician for at least 1 year.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and handle parts up to 137 pounds, and use mechanical hoists for heavier items.
Possess or obtain necessary mechanical/electrical hand tools meeting divisional standards.
Work remotely with rare trips to dispatching office. Write repair activities clearly. Demonstrate problem-solving skills and experience with PC-based equipment and parts information. Interface professionally with customers. Be safety-conscious and comfortable working with live high-power circuits. Respond promptly to emergency needs.
Field Activity:
Operate a service vehicle daily and travel extended distances to customer sites. Maintain professionalism and integrity in all activities.
Additional Requirements:
Valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record. Some positions may require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Prerequisites:
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical aspects of power generation, including diesel and gasoline/LP engines. Troubleshooting skills in lubrication, cooling, fuel systems, generator operations, LP gas, instrumentation, electrical actuators, industrial communication protocols, governors, UPS, battery systems, voltage regulation, surge suppression, power factor controls, and OEM engine controls. Proficiency with electronic test equipment and interpreting electrical diagrams is essential.
