Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced shop technician to perform mechanical repairs, diagnostic work, and proactive maintenance on a variety of vehicle systems in a fast-paced shop environment.

The role requires DOT-related certifications and strong knowledge of diesel and HVAC systems, with on-call duties including night shifts and weekends. You will document work orders and mentor junior staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Air Brake Certification and DOT Medical Card required.
• Section 609 HVAC Certification required for HVAC service; ASE certifications preferred.
• Must obtain or maintain ASE, DOT, and other certifications within a reasonable time frame.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repairs in a timely and professional manner.
• Perform preventive maintenance, tire services, and emergency road service calls.
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Perform service calls, including night and on-call assignments.
• Use J-Pro, FleetCross, and OE software to diagnose and repair vehicle systems.
• Complete work orders accurately, documenting labor, parts, and warranty information.
• Perform intermediate to advanced engine repairs and diagnostics.
• Diagnose and repair emissions systems, including DPF, EGR, sensors, and regeneration procedures.
• Perform drivetrain repairs, including clutches, differentials, PTOs, axles, transmissions, and driveline components.
• Diagnose and repair wheel-end, air system, air brake, ABS, steering, suspension, electrical, and HVAC systems.

• Perform mechanical repairs in a timely and professional manner
• Perform preventive maintenance services, tire services, and emergency road service calls
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
• Perform service calls, including night and on-call assignments
• Use J-Pro, FleetCross, and OE software to diagnose and repair vehicle systems
• Complete work orders accurately, documenting labor, parts, and warranty information
• Perform intermediate to advanced engine repairs and diagnostics
• Diagnose and repair emissions systems, including DPF, EGR, sensors, and regeneration procedures
• Perform drivetrain repairs, including clutches, differentials, PTOs, axles, transmissions, and driveline components
• Perform wheel-end, air system, air brake, ABS, steering, suspension, electrical, and HVAC diagnostics and repairs
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, tools, and equipment
• Maintain tools, jacks, and service vehicles in safe working condition
• Complete LMS training requirements and OSHA Skills Demonstrations
• Provide friendly, professional, and competent customer service
• Adhere to company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements
• Assist with other assigned duties
• Advanced-level technicians may mentor shop personnel and serve as subject matter experts

Requirements

• Air Brake Certification required
• DOT Medical Card required
• Section 609 HVAC certification required for HVAC service
• ASE certifications preferred
• Shop Technician IV must obtain or maintain T2: Diesel Engines, T4: Brakes, T5: Suspension & Steering, T6: Electrical/Electronic Systems, and T7: Heating, Ventilation & A/C (or equivalent) within one year of promotion
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
• Ability to attend and successfully complete HVAC, Electrical, and DOT training
• Ability to obtain required ASE, DOT, and other certifications
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call schedules as needed
• Reliable transportation and phone
• Ability to communicate effectively in English
• Ability to work cooperatively with team members and deliver excellent customer service
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
• Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday
• Ability to work in shop and roadside environments under varying conditions
• Physical attendance at the primary work location is required
