Job summary

Nidec Motor Corporation is seeking a Shop Helper for our First Shift in the United States. The role involves general labor tasks, assist with motors, generators, and pumps, and performing prep work and light maintenance at the facility.

The position requires reliability, safety awareness, and ability to follow detailed instructions. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, basic mechanical skills, and forklift/overhead crane certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with disassembly and reassembly of motors, generators, and pumps.
  • Sandblast, steam clean, and prep parts for assembly or repair.
  • Operate cutout saw and load motors, generators, and pumps into burn out oven.
  • Perform general facility maintenance tasks (lawn care, cleaning, painting, etc.).
  • Operate company equipment safely (forklift, crane, hand tools).
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and on time; adhere to QMS requirements.

Position Objective:

The primary responsibility of a Shop Helper is to perform general labor tasks.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist with disassembly and reassembly of motors, generators, and pumps
  • Sandblast, steam clean, cleans and prep parts
  • Operates the cutout saw and put motors, generators, and pumps in the burn out oven
  • Performs tasks as required for general facility maintenance and upkeep including but not limited to lawn care, general janitorial duties, sweeping, pressure washing and painting
  • Operate company equipment (i.e. forklift, crane hand tools, etc.) in a safe and efficient manner in the performance of all duties as required
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis
  • Comply with all company policies / procedures and perform all job functions in an ethical manner
  • Complete all required safety training
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear for all tasks
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area free of hazards as directed by supervisor
  • Performs all applicable duties in accordance with our Quality Management System (QMS), as required
  • Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by management
Experience/Skills:
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training, in-house/offsite
  • Must be willing work evenings and/or weekends, if required
  • Possess valid identification
  • Be able to operate motor vehicles in compliance with all state and federal requirements, if travel required
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification required
  • Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Basic/experienced mechanic knowledge
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to read, write and follow work instructions
  • Ability to interface with co-workers and customers
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work with minimal supervision
Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Must pass all required pre-employment screenings - Background, Physical & Drug screen
  • Be able to comply with all drug and alcohol policies of Nidec / Houma Armature Works and/or customer sponsored programs. Subject to random Drug and Alcohol screenings
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds unrestricted
