Job summary

Nidec Motor Corporation seeks a Shop Technician to inspect, disassemble, reassemble, and test generators, motors, pumps and gen sets in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The role requires understanding mechanical and basic electrical operation, reading hand drawings, using micrometers and gauges, and performing quality paperwork in line with ISO standards. Training provided; shift: First Shift (USA).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; 0–2 years related experience accepted.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow work instructions.
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification required.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical connections.
  • Basic computer skills and effective communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, disassemble, reassemble, and test generators, motors, pumps and gen sets.
  • Understand mechanical and basic electrical operation of equipment.
  • Use gauges (micrometers/calipers) to measure fits and document readings.
  • Perform standard maintenance on shop equipment; ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and on time.

Job Description
Position Objective:

The Shop Technician is responsible for inspection, disassembly, reassembly, and testing of generators, motors, pumps and gen sets. Completion of all necessary paperwork in accordance with all quality standards with minimal guidance.

  • Ability to understand mechanical and basic electrical operation of motors, generators, and pumps
  • Responsible for disassembly of generators, motors, pumps, gen sets, J-Boxes and all components connected
  • Responsible for understanding and making detailed hand drawings of all electrical connections and any additional information needed to reassemble equipment
  • Responsible for the testing of all electrical components of equipment during teardown and reassembly
  • Responsible for minor modifications to frame with torch and welding machine
  • Must be able to use gauges, such as inside and outside micrometers, to measure machine fits, including bearing housing and shaft fits and document readings as required
  • Must perform standard maintenance on all shop equipment used in mechanics area. Includes bench grinders, lead crimpers, vises, air tools, etc.
  • Responsible for the installation of bearings and hub on shaft, stators in housings, and checking advancement as required
  • Responsible for accurate reassembly of equipment, including but not limited to reconditioning of rotating field, exciter armature, exciter field, rectifier, sleeve bearings, AC & DC motors, pumps and gen sets
  • Responsible for test running equipment after completion, monitoring, and documenting all test results
  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis
  • Operate company equipment (i.e. forklift, crane, hand tools etc.) in a safe and efficient manner in the performance of all duties as required
  • Comply with all company policies / procedures and perform all job functions in an ethical manner
  • Complete all required safety training
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper protective gear for all tasks
  • Responsible for maintaining clean and orderly work area free of hazards
  • Must provide all necessary hand tools
  • Performs all applicable duties in accordance with ISO procedures, if required
  • Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor
Experience/Skills:
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training, in-house / off-site
  • Must be willing work evenings and/or weekends, if required
  • Possess valid identification
  • Be able to operate motor vehicles in compliance with all state and federal requirements, if travel required
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification required
  • Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Basic/Experienced mechanic knowledge
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to read, write and follow work instructions
  • Ability to interface with co-workers and customers
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work with minimal supervision
