Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com in San Diego is seeking a skilled trades assistant to build and dismantle scaffolds, clean tanks, and assist in sea trials and ship launchings. This role involves handling lumber, metal components, and safety equipment in a busy shipyard environment.

Shifts are 1st, and candidates must be able to work in confined spaces, heights, and loud, hazardous areas while following detailed safety protocols and instructions.

Qualifications

• Preferred scaffold building experience.
• Ability to read a tape measure and operate power tools.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
• Must pass scaffold building and chainsaw tests administered by NASSCO.
• Follow roping and tying procedures; read safety instructions.

Responsibilities

• Clean tanks/vessels in confined spaces and perform general shipyard cleaning.
• Build and dismantle scaffolds and other wooden structures.
• Build and dismantle safety handrails and other equipment.
• Sort, inspect and stack lumber and metal scaffold components.
• Assist other trades in sea trials and ship launchings.
• Move furniture and other equipment.
