Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com is seeking a skilled Machinist in San Diego, CA. The role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing propulsion and auxiliary systems aboard ships, including steam, turbine, electrical, and diesel propulsion.

You will also work on fluid systems, pumps, valves, and associated shop equipment. The position requires reading mechanical drawings, understanding hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams, and precise measurement with shop tools, following safety guidelines

Qualifications

• Must read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
• Ability to read hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
• Proficient with precision measurement tools and shop mathematics.
• Must understand Imperial and Metric measurement systems and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair ship propulsion and auxiliary systems.
• Test equipment to ensure systems meet specifications and safety requirements.
• Work with various piping, valves, and mechanical systems in shipyard environments.
• Operate hand, power, and portable machining tools safely.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Navy ratings experience or Diesel/ Aircraft Mechanic training
