Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com is seeking a welder to join our shipyard team in San Diego. The role involves welding shell plating, fabricated components, and pipes for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies, following exact specifications.

The successful candidate will work with various welding processes and equipment, pass NASSCO plate and pipe tests, and be able to work at heights and in confined spaces. Shifts vary and safety procedures must be followed at all times.

Qualifications

• Three years experience in welding, knowledge of welding procedures, and various types of welding equipment, proficient in flat, vertical, overhead, and horizontal arc, SMAW and flux-core, tig welding and air arc skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up tools, welding equipment and supplies at job site
• Burns pipe or penetrations.
• Tacks and welds pipe.
• Cleans weld area; sweeps and removes scrap.
• Other job duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.
