Job summary

ARMADA INC. in Portsmouth, VA is seeking a Fabricator to assemble, weld, and install steel structures aboard ships and at customer facilities.

The role requires reading blueprints, fabricating parts, and performing pipe and structural welds across OSS, CRES, and aluminum materials. The candidate should have at least 3 years of welding-related experience, pass a precertification test, and be able to work in a fast-paced shipyard environment with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

• High school graduate, or GED preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
• Must pass precertification welding test.
• Apprenticeship or certification in welding from secondary school is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
• Lay out, fabricate and brace metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames.
• Lay out position of parts on metal, working from blueprints or templates and using scribe and hand tools.
• Locate and mark reference lines, such as center, buttock, and frame lines.
• Proficient in SMAW, GMAW-P, GTAW, and FCAW welding processes and related arc processes.
• Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
• Mark holes to be drilled and install temporary fasteners for welding.
• Experience with welding various materials and joint designs.
