Job summary

Ameri-Force, Inc is seeking experienced Journeyman Shipfitters / Structural Fabricators to support shipbuilding and repair operations. The role involves fitting, fabricating, assembling, and preparing structural components in accordance with NAVSEA drawings and military standards.

Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of journeyman-level shipyard experience and be proficient with hand and power tools, oxy-fuel cutting, and basic welding symbols.

Qualifications

• 2+ years journeyman shipyard experience.
• Able to fabricate components from NAVSEA drawings with minimum direction.
• Able to pass oxy-fuel torch test (setup, cutting, beveling).
• Read and interpret basic welding symbols per Military Standard 22-D.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural components per NAVSEA drawings and specs.
• Read blueprints, fabrication drawings, layouts, and welding symbols.
• Set up and operate oxy-fuel cutting equipment; beveling and shaping of components.
• Prepare materials for welding and final assembly; ensure alignment and fit-up.
• Follow shipyard safety procedures and maintain production and quality standards.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, welders, and production staff.

Shipfitter / Structural Fabricator

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Journeyman Shipfitters / Structural Fabricators to support shipbuilding and repair operations. This position is responsible for fitting, fabricating, assembling, and preparing structural components in accordance with NAVSEA drawings, military standards, and shipyard requirements.

Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of journeyman-level shipyard experience and be comfortable performing fabrication work with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural components according to NAVSEA drawings and specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, layouts, and basic welding symbols.
• Perform layout, cutting, fitting, beveling, and preparation of structural steel components.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and shipyard fabrication equipment.
• Set up and operate oxy-fuel cutting equipment.
• Perform cutting and beveling using an oxy-fuel torch.
• Prepare materials and components for welding and final assembly.
• Verify measurements, alignment, fit-up, and fabrication accuracy.
• Work independently with minimal direction while meeting production and quality requirements.
• Follow all shipyard safety procedures and applicable military standards.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, welders, and other production personnel.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years shipyard Journeyperson level experience.
• Must be able to fabricate components based on NAVSEA drawing requirements with minimum direction given.
• Must be able to use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently
• Must be able to pass an oxy-fuel torch test consistent of set up, cutting, and beveling.
• Must be able to understand, read and interpret basic welding symbols based on the requirements of Military Standard 22-D.
• Have working knowledge of Military Standard 1688 and Military Standard 1689.
• Good communication and good interpersonal skills.
• Must possess basic reading, writing and mathematical skills.
• Previous experience in use of overhead cranes. ( will be trained)
• Previous experience in shop equipment such as iron worker, break press and plate roller.
• Must be able to work weekends and a variety of shifts as needed
