Job summary

Mountain Cement Company is seeking a Shipping Operator to load bulk cement into trucks and railroad cars at our new state-of-the-art plant. You will perform scale-based loading, weigh trucks, prepare shipping documentation, and ensure compliance with mining regulations and company policies.

The role requires basic computer use, math accuracy, mechanical aptitude, and a strong safety record. Expect 12-hour shifts, heavy lifting, and regular exposure to outdoor conditions at our facility.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety inspections of all work areas at least once per shift.
• Perform area inspections and report issues; minor repairs may be done by the operator.
• Tensioning and replacement of small belt drives (v-belts).
• Check lubrication of machinery and add lubrication as needed.
• Load trucks and railcars with product and ensure compliance with weight laws.
• Prepare railroad bulk cards and inspect/clean bulk cars; seal railcar hatches.
• Move rail cars and spot trucks as needed; operate Track Mobile.
• Collect samples from each loaded bulk car or truck; deliver to shipping.
• Clean silo interiors as required.
• Measure cement levels in storage silos from stairs or ladders.
• Maintain clean work areas to reduce slip/trip hazards.
• Operate mobile equipment with required task training per MSHA.

Overview: The Shipping Operator, under the immediate supervision of the Shipping Supervisor is responsible to load bulk cement into trucks and railroad cars. Controls selection and loading of cements into trucks on scale, weights trucks, prepares shipping orders, certificates of compliance, sample information and bills of lading via computer entry while complying with all applicable mining regulations and/or Mountain Cement Company policies at all times. Basic qualifications and/or traits that the Shipping Operator must possess include:

• Basic knowledge of computer operations.
• Must be able to perform basic mathematics with accuracy.
• A strong mechanical aptitude.
• Have a reliable attendance and safety record.
• Demonstrates strong self-direction and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Be able to give and take directions.
• Must be able to work with the public in person and over the telephone in an efficient and courteous manner.
• Knowledge of safe operation and mobile equipment.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of a Shipping Operator include, but are not limited to:

• Safety inspections of all working areas shall be performed a minimum of once per shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be performed as conditions warrant. (i.e. changing weather conditions, operation of mechanical equipment changes, etc.)
• Performing a completing inspection of assigned work areas to check for any operational and/or mechanical problems with equipment. All identified problems must be reported to the Shipping Supervisor. Minor mechanical repairs are to be performed by the shipping operator. The Shipping Supervisor will determine the score of work and decide if assistance from other departments is required.
• Tensioning of small belt drives (v-belts).
• Replacement of torn or damaged small belt drives (v-belts).
• Checking lubrication of all machinery and equipment in the packhouse area and adding lubrication when necessary.
• Loading all trucks and railcars with product. The shipping operator must be knowledgeable of the laws and regulating the weights of vehicles in all areas where MCC product is being shipped.
• Prepares railroad bulk cards for loading. Inspects and cleans interior of bulk cars when necessary. Reports damage or adverse conditions to supervisor. Closes bottom hatches of bulk cars as required.
• May move rail cars and spot trucks into facilities loading operations. Required to operate diesel-powered Track Mobile.
• Required to obtain samples from each bulk car or truck loaded. Seals railcar hatches. Delivers samples to shipping office for storage.
• Occasionally cleans silo interiors.
• Required to measure cement level in storage silos via stairways or ladders.
• Clean up of work areas by the shipping operator is to be performed daily to remove slip/trip/fall hazards.
• Operation of mobile equipment. Proper task training and safe operation guidelines will be adhered to at all times. Employees will not operate any piece of mobile equipment without being properly task trained as required by MSHA regulations.
• Performs other work as directed

Physical Requirements: The Shipping Operator position is safety sensitive. The physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Regularly working 12 hours shifts including on nights and weekends.
• Working in areas of heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
• Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing
• Lifting 75+ lbs regularly
• Access silo elevator and stairway up several flights of stairs several times per day via a 100FT tall ladder.
• Travel routes may include stairs, catwalks, ladders, elevated walkways, and uneven floors.

Education
