Job summary

Atkore in Louisville, KY is seeking a Shipping Manager to lead the Shipping department and the Plant Management Team. You will manage a team, coordinate with Production, Customer Service, Transportation and Quality, and ensure efficient shipping operations.

You will monitor order fulfillment, optimize freight and carrier mix, maintain inventory accuracy, and use JD Edwards. Associate degree with 5 years' related experience and 3 years supervisory experience required.

Qualifications

• Associates degree and at least 5 years of shipping/logistics experience.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience managing people.
• Strong time management, planning and organizational skills.
• Experience with shipping/receiving databases or software.
• Knowledge of JD Edwards shipping utilization.

Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Shipping Manager to be based out of our Louisville, KY plant. You will be responsible for managing a team of employees by being a key leader of the Shipping department and the Plant Management Team.

What you’ll do:

• Identify work procedures; prepare work schedules and expedite workflow
• Examine work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures
• Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency
• Review pipe orders to determine truckload space/percentage and if a fill is needed
• Communicate with CSR regarding fills and order status when requested
• Coordinate product needs with the Production Department and the Plant Manager
• Communicate with shipping personnel regarding incoming deliveries or special instructions
• Negotiate freight rates and search for additional carriers for backup
• Assist with inventory control process
• Report inventory discrepancies to Inventory Control
• Strong knowledge of JD Edwards for shipping utilization

What you’ll bring:

• Associate degree and minimum of 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Supervisory experience is required with a minimum of 3 years' experience managing people
• Time management, planning and organizational skills
• Effective decision making and problem-solving abilities
• Experience working with shipping and receiving database/software
• Shipping/material handling experience with knowledge of shipping and receiving principles, practices, and procedures
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong initiative and adaptable to change

Within 3 months, you’ll:

• Establish relationships with Production, Warehouse, Customer Service, Transportation, and Quality teams.

Within 6 months, you’ll:

• Update training materials and procedures.
• Create new training materials.
• Audit processes to ensure conformance specifications are met.
• Improve employee accountability through regular coaching, performance feedback, and team communication.

Within 12 months, you’ll:

• Be managing an efficient team that delivers Atkore’s strategy.
• Creating and updating reports, training materials and documentation.
• Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports.
• Achieve or exceed annual departmental performance targets.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $ 80,160 - $110,220 . Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
