Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Shipping Manager to oversee outbound shipping for a hog processing facility, ensuring compliant, on-time shipments while maintaining food safety standards. You will lead shipping staff, coordinate with production and QA, and optimize logistics with transportation teams.

The role requires 3–5+ years in shipping/logistics, supervisory experience, and knowledge of USDA regulations. A cold, refrigerated environment experience is essential.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse management, preferably in a meat or food processing environment.
• Previous supervisory or management experience required.
• Knowledge of USDA regulations, food safety standards, and cold chain logistics.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Experience with inventory systems and shipping software.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, refrigerated environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily shipping operations: order fulfillment, staging, loading, and dispatch.
• Ensure shipments meet customer specs and delivery schedules.
• Maintain USDA/food safety standards and HACCP compliance.
• Coordinate with production to align shipping with processing output.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate shipping staff.
• Monitor inventory accuracy and implement FIFO.
• Ensure labeling, documentation, and traceability of outgoing products.
• Manage bills of lading, manifests, and export paperwork if applicable.
• Oversee loading to protect product integrity and prevent contamination.
• Collaborate with transport providers and internal logistics to optimize shipping.
• Maintain a safe work environment and enforce safety policies.
• Investigate and resolve shipping errors and delays.
• Monitor department metrics and drive process improvements.
• Maintain sanitation in shipping areas.
