Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, and evaluate shipping staff.
• Monitor inventory accuracy and implement FIFO.
• Ensure labeling, documentation, and traceability of outgoing products.
• Manage bills of lading, manifests, and export paperwork if applicable.
• Oversee loading to protect product integrity and prevent contamination.
• Collaborate with transport providers and internal logistics to optimize shipping.
• Maintain a safe work environment and enforce safety policies.
• Investigate and resolve shipping errors and delays.
• Monitor department metrics and drive process improvements.

Job Summary:

The Shipping Manager is responsible for overseeing all outbound shipping operations within a hog processing facility. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant shipment of pork products while maintaining food safety standards, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow. The Shipping Manager leads shipping personnel, coordinates logistics, and works closely with production, quality assurance, and transportation teams.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily shipping operations, including order fulfillment, product staging, loading, and dispatch
• Ensure all shipments meet customer specifications and delivery schedules
• Maintain compliance with USDA, FDA, and company food safety standards (including HACCP)
• Coordinate with production teams to align shipping schedules with processing output
• Supervise, train, and evaluate shipping department employees
• Monitor inventory accuracy and ensure proper product rotation (FIFO)
• Ensure proper labeling, documentation, and traceability of all outgoing products
• Manage shipping documentation including bills of lading, manifests, and export paperwork if applicable
• Oversee loading procedures to ensure product integrity and prevent contamination

Required Skills/Abilities:

• High school diploma or GED required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
• 3-5+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse management, preferably in a meat or food processing environment
• Previous supervisory or management experience required
• Knowledge of USDA regulations, food safety standards, and cold chain logistics
• Strong organizational and leadership skills
• Experience with inventory systems and shipping software
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, refrigerated environment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work in cold/wet environments
• Ability to wear required PPE (hair net, beard net, gloves, safety gear, etc.)

Work Environment:

• Work is performed in a pork processing facility.
• Exposure to cold temperatures, wet floors, moving equipment, and industrial noise may occur.

Must follow all company food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety policies.
