Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Shipping and Assembly Associate for a contract-to-hire role based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. You will produce quality crates and components, read blueprints, assemble parts, and maintain tooling and inventory to meet safety and customer standards.

Responsibilities include using hand and power tools, following ISPM crating processes, inspecting crates, and collaborating with team members on complex projects.

Shipping and Assembly Associate

We are looking for a dedicated Shipping and Assembly Associate to join our team. This role involves producing quality products in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner. As a Shipping and Assembly Associate, you will be responsible for managing inventory, assembling components, and ensuring that all products meet our company's quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Produce quality products on time, safely, and cost-effectively.
  • Demonstrate respect, positivity, and a strong work ethic.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to cut and assemble materials for building crates.
  • Inspect and repair damaged crates.
  • Safely use hand and power tools.
  • Follow ISPM crating processes and procedures to ensure crates meet customer and product requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Manage inventory of materials and tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members on large or complex projects.
  • Ensure packaging and crating meet company quality standards.
  • Follow safety guidelines and suggest safety improvements.
  • Read blueprints and specifications to meet production standards.
  • Measure products using gauges, templates, tape measures, and other tools.
  • Assemble components according to blueprints and schematics.
  • Communicate print, BOM, or parts issues to supervisors.
  • Verify component quantities and inspect completed products.
  • Manage parts inventory and prepare parts according to specifications.
  • Ensure materials are functional and high quality.
  • Make accurate cuts and inspect and test equipment.
  • Make daily quality decisions and ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Escalate quality concerns and participate in root cause analysis to implement process improvements.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities.
  • Assist other production areas as needed.
  • Organize and clean the work area before shift end.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Experience in using hand and power tools safely.
  • Knowledge of ISPM crating processes and procedures.
  • Ability to manage inventory and perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Experience in measuring products and making accurate cuts.
  • Strong communication skills to report print, BOM, or parts issues to supervisors.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in the furniture industry is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes.
  • Experience in loading/unloading, preparing, and inspecting glass.
  • Knowledge of forklift operation and RF scanner usage.

Work Environment

The work environment is casual, allowing for tank tops with straps greater than 1 inch and shorts that are not too short. Leggings are acceptable if paired with a longer shirt. Headphones are allowed, provided that communication with peers is not hindered. However, headphones are not allowed while driving a hilo. The work hours are from 6 am to 3 pm, with the first day starting at 8 am. Employees are required to sign the employee handbook prior to starting. The facility maintains a clean and safe environment, focusing on teamwork and collaboration.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $17.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
