Job summary

Fastenal is hiring an energetic Shipping Assistant Manager to join our distribution center team. In this full-time role you will help manage the Shipping department, organize outgoing orders, and lead team members to ensure safe, accurate and timely operations.

You will use warehouse management systems and MS Office, motivate staff, and drive continuous improvements while upholding health, safety, and sustainability standards across the facility.

Qualifications

  • Must have prior leadership or management experience.
  • Proficient written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of computer operations, including warehouse management systems and Microsoft Office Applications
  • Highly motivated, self directed and customer service oriented
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Learn and perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Motivating and leading team members
  • Coordinating employees, including scheduling, hiring and exiting
  • Ensuring day-to-day operations are completed
  • Communicating with employees and branches
  • Inspecting product for damage and documenting discrepancies
  • Sorting product into correct locations
  • Stacking product efficiently
  • Consolidating, loading and unloading shipments
  • Analyzing staffing needs, reports and projections to optimize output and meet department goals
  • Utilizing data to implement changes and identify areas for improvement
  • Maintaining the cleanliness/organization of work area
  • Complying with health, safety and sustainability rules and expectations
  • Participating in activities and programs that help the company achieve health, safety and sustainability objectives
  • Learning, passing, and practicing various environmental health and safety trainings

OVERVIEW

Working as Full-Time Shipping Assistant Manager, you will assist in managing the Shipping department. The Shipping department is responsible for organizing all outgoing orders by placing packages into the correct shipping containers. You will motivate and provide leadership to team members to ensure day-to-day operations are completed safely, accurately, efficiently and on time. RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess prior leadership or management work experience
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer operations, including warehouse management systems and Microsoft Office Applications
  • Highly motivated, self directed and customer service oriented
  • Exhibit strong problem solving, deductive reasoning and decision making skills
  • Learn and perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Lead and motivate a team of employees
  • Demonstrate strong math aptitude, attention to detail and sense of urgency
  • Demonstrate strong organization, planning, and prioritizing abilities
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule/extra time as needed

  • Lift, slide, carry and lower packages that typically weigh 25lbs-50lbs and may weigh up to 100lbs
  • Pass the required drug screen (applicable in the US, Puerto Rico and Guam ONLY)
PREFERRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience operating a forklift
  • Prior warehouse work experience
