Job summary

IMIA, LLC is seeking a Shipfitter to fabricate, assemble and erect steel structures aboard ships or in shipyards. The role requires reading blueprints, using hand tools and shop equipment, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

The candidate will lay out parts, fit and weld components, and assist with shipboard or dockside operations while maintaining a clean work area and following all company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 6 months to 1 year related experience and/or training.
• Experience with steel, aluminum and/or stainless steel required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, fabricate and brace metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames.
• Lay out position of parts on metal from blueprints or templates using hand tools.
• Mark holes to be drilled and set temporary fasteners for welding.
• Install packing, gaskets, liners and structural accessories and members.
• May roll, bend, flare, cut and shape plates and beams using shop machinery.
• Assemble items as instructed by floor supervisor and ensure safety and quality standards.
