The role involves laying out and fabricating metal structural parts like plates, bulkheads, and frames, and bracing them in position within ship hulls for riveting or welding. Duties include using blueprints or templates, marking lines, aligning parts with jacks and clamps, preparing molds for nonstandard parts, and assisting with daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Ability to read blueprints or templates.
• Proficient in laying out and fabricating metal parts.
• Familiar with riveting or welding in shipbuilding.

Responsibilities

• Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames.
• Brace parts in position within the hull of ships for riveting or welding.
• Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.
• Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members as required.
• Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
