Job summary

AMP United seeks a skilled Ship Fitter to fabricate, assemble, and install metal structures on ships. You will perform tack welds, read drawings, and use plasma cutters and grinders to ensure precise fitting while maintaining rigorous safety standards on site.

The role requires hands-on experience in shipbuilding environments, adherence to Navsea standards where applicable, and the ability to work with templates and basic shop math. A strong commitment to safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience on construction sites within shipbuilding environments.
• Ability to read basic structural drawings.
• Proficient with tack welding using FCAW/SMAW.
• Familiarity with measurement tools and shop math.
• Knowledge of Navsea standards is a plus.
• Commitment to safety protocols at all times.

Responsibilities

• Measure materials precisely using a tape measure.
• Perform tack welding operations including FCAW and SMAW.
• Fabricate metal parts and install inserts using templates.
• Use plasma cutter, grinder, cutting torch and other shop tools.
• Follow safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
• Assist with removal and installation of mechanical systems and piping on ships.
• Support fabrications and document work and quality checks.
