Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp. seeks a shipfitting professional for the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI. This on-site role covers layout, fabrication and installation of hull components, reading blueprints, and aligning parts per drawings. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; or minimum 2 years related technical experience.
• Shipfitting, metal fabrication, and related trades experience or training.
• Ability to work all shifts.
• Ability to read technical manuals, shipyard procedures, blueprints and diagrams.
• Own basic hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Fitting hull butts, critical inserts and penetrations.
• Layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages.
• Develop knowledge of weld joint fit-up and symbols; burning and grinding operations.
• Interpreting construction drawings/blueprints.
• Aligning parts using jacks, clips and wedges with blueprints and templates.
• Tack-welding structural parts as required.
• Using hand and power tools in steel fabrication.
• Read and interpret policies, procedures, guidelines; work from drawings and technical documents.
• Work in restricted/confined spaces.
