Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in North Kingstown, RI seeks an experienced shipfitter to contribute to hull fitting, layout, fabrication, and installation of structures and decks. You will read blueprints and align parts to tight tolerances.

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, or related technical training, and the ability to work all shifts, including confined spaces. We offer comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or 2 years related technical experience.
• Shipfitting or metal fabrication experience or formal training
• Ability to work all shifts

Responsibilities

• Fitting Hull butts, critical inserts and penetrations.
• Layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages.
• Developing a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations
• Interpreting construction drawings/blueprints
• Aligning parts in relation to each other using jacks, clips and wedges through use of blueprints and templates
• Tack-welding structural parts as required
• Utilizing hands and power tools in the steel fabrication trade
• Ability to read and interpret written policies, procedures and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures
• Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces
