Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with ship production or a shipyard.

  • Understanding of U.S. shipbuilding issues related to workers’ skillsets and industrial challenges.
  • Strong analytical and communications skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) required; TOEFL score or equivalent documentation may be requested.

Job description

Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), in partnership with Bollinger Shipyards and Finnish partners (Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, Rauma Marine Constructions, Länsirannikon Koulutus Oy WinNova) has been awarded funding for a four-year initiative NEXTSEAS, Next Era Xceptional Technology for Shipbuilding and Education in Americas’ Seas to create a future‑ready, resilient shipbuilding workforce. This transatlantic collaboration will design and deliver an adaptive training pipeline that responds to the evolving needs of the US maritime industry.

The Shipbuilding Expert is a member MMA’s core grant team consisting of a Project Director, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, and a Shipbuilding Expert who will partner with team members in Finland, Bollinger Shipyards, and other United States educational institutions.

This is a grant‑funded position with no eligibility for severance pay. ILAB, the Federal awarding agency for this project, retains the authority to approve all key personnel changes throughout the life of the award as stated in 2 CFR 200.308(f).

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with ship production or a shipyard, with a primary focus on construction and delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience working with academic institutions, training centers, worker organizations, policymakers, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and other stakeholders.
  • Understanding of U.S. shipbuilding issues related to workers’ skillsets and industrial challenges.
  • Strong analytical and communications skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) required. Non‑native speakers must provide evidence of fluency, including a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score or transcript showing completion of advanced English language coursework.
Salary

$75,000-$80,000 based on education, qualifications, and experience.
