BlackSea Technologies, a US-based firm in Maryland, seeks a Mechanical Engineer with 6–15 years of vessel experience to lead a small team designing and outfitting an undersea vessel. Salary Range: $108,000 to $156,000

MAPC has an opening for a full time (40hr/wk) Mechanical Engineer with with a background and interest in vessel and ship system designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, real-world operational experience on marine vessels, and will be capable of leadership roles in a multi-disciplinary project team. Technical work efforts for this position are primarily focused on leading a small team of engineers performing outfitting and arrangements for a unique undersea vessel. Layouts and trade studies, including the effects of weight and strength performance calculations, will be performed on designs comprised of materials ranging from conventional materials to high performance thermoplastics. Work will include the integration of systems and components from COTS and modified COTS hardware to fully custom parts and assemblies. Real-world Human-Machine Interface (HMI) considerations will require consideration for system operations in a challenging environment. Work on this program is planned from concept design through detailed design, prototype fabrication, testing, and production over the course of this program. BlackSea is seeking a candidate who has experience, existing knowledge, and skills to support these tasks, as well as curiosity and an interest in solving novel problems.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, from an ABET-accredited institution
6-15 years of relevant experience, including significant experience on one or more vessels Experience using 3D design tools, including Finite Element Analysis
Experience coordinating work planning and status for a small technical team
Experience working in Integrated Product Teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to board and traverse boats and ships
Experience using SolidWorks and related tools for design and FEA stress analysis
Experience leading Integrated Product Teams
Strong capabilities using Microsoft Office tools
Past shipboard or shipyard / repair facility assignment, as a civilian or in conjunction with US military service
An existing security clearance
