Job summary

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking skilled trades professionals in San Diego, CA, to support operations on weapon and aircraft elevators aboard U.S. Navy ships. Responsibilities include maintenance, troubleshooting, and training of personnel.

Job description

Travel required 26‑50%. Full‑time, non‑exempt. Salary $53,354 – $68,520. Security clearance: DoD Secret (obtain). Mid‑level experience. Based in San Diego, CA.

Summary

Support contracted skilled trades work on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators and their systems on U.S. Navy ships within the Elevator Support Unit (ESU).

What You Will Do
  • Perform skilled trades, maintenance and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems, including aircraft elevators, weapons elevators and vertical stores conveyors.
  • Perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and testing of electrical systems.
  • Work closely with higher level employees on specialized assignments.
  • Assist or train other employees/Navy personnel on shipboard systems and daily operation.
  • Conduct daily physical labor in an industrial and shipboard environment.
  • Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.
  • Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignments.
What You Must Have
  • High school or equivalent education and 6 years of related experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and testing of electrical systems.
  • Proficiency reading electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience conducting on‑site equipment installation following safety, qualification control & testing procedures.
  • Ability to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.
  • Ability to obtain, maintain base access credentials and a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Ability to provide own hand tools as required per trades specialty.
Preferred
  • Experience operating, repairing and maintaining marine hydraulic electrical systems.
  • Prior shipboard experience.
  • Current or active DoD secret clearance or higher.
  • Related technical training, degrees and/or certifications.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevators, ordnance handling equipment and vertical package conveyors.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift, carry and transport heavy equipment at least 30 lbs.
  • Work on ladders, in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, shipyards, industrial conditions and confined spaces.
  • Work in high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, aloft or over vessel sides.
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods and may require wearing a respirator.
  • Travel within and outside of the continental United States.
